You’re at a party, and someone comes up to you and says, “Hey, I heard you’re taking some religion class at Harper. Why bother? All religions are the same!” How would you respond?

  • All the same, different, or both? Support your answer by considering the 8 common or shared features located in the center of the sub-atomic particle illustration. (see attachment)
  • Refer to at least one exclusive feature or unique element from each of the six major religious traditions–e.g., “That’s what I thought too. But undefined come to find out, Hindus either believe in many gods or follow and favor one of many. Even though Buddhism originated in India, and is an offspring of Hinduism, it’s actually a non-theistic or even an atheistic tradition centered around the Four Noble Truths. In that way, it’s quite different from Hinduism on a few crucial points. And then there’s Daoism…you know, ‘go with the flow’?
  • Content matters significantly in grading these papers, but creativity in your interacting with the question is also valued highly.
  • Providing additional resources with proper citation is a plus.
