Introduction

In this section you will become familiar with the systemic approach to treatment planning.  You will also create a template that will be useful during your MFT program coursework as well as in your future MFT practice.  Please approach this Section with that application in mind.

Reflection Week

This week is designed to give you an opportunity to review all the materials that will be required to assimilate in preparation for the final assignment for this course, the selection and application of the preferred Classical MFT Model  of your choice.

Instructions regarding AATBS materials, the readings listed below will be found in the following volumes:

  • California Exam Volume II – Treatment Planning and Treatment (focus on the information about this model)
  • National Exam Book – Treatment (focus on the information about this theory)

Be sure to carefully review this week’s resources. You will be expected to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your assignments.

Taking the Time to Reflect

Activity Description

Please review the materials listed in the Books and Resources area for the weeks 9, 10, and 11.

Take your time to review all the models that you have learned about in this course so far. Consider which model suits your personal style, keeping in mind the following prompts:

  1. How am I planning to introduce change in therapy?
  2. How do I envision my role as a therapist?
  3. What questions am I curious to ask clients during a therapeutic intervention?

Also, as necessary do not hesitate to reach out to your professor with any additional questions regarding the materials that you have learned so far in this course. 

Learning Outcomes

1.0   Articulate the primary concepts of the classic and intergenerational models of Marriage and Family Therapy.

2.0   Synthesize specific concepts of the key classic and intergenerational models of therapy.

3.0   Critique classic and intergenerational models of therapy in the professional literature.

4.0   Evaluate the degree to which classic and intergenerational models of family therapy address issues of diversity including, age, culture, spirituality, race, gender, and socioeconomic status.
