One important structure that tends to get a lot of media attention recently is the police.
After reading the article “’Fault Lines’ in an Anthropology of Police, Both Public and Global” (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1556-3502.2013.54702.x/pdf), consider the police and the criminal justice system from an anthropological perspective. How might the police and the criminal justice system reinforce power and economic inequalities? How are race, class, gender, and other factors implicated in who is classified as a criminal and who commits criminal acts? Why might cities be considered “dangerous”?
